D.N.D. Procedure
DND is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that utilizes a natural opening into the spinal canal to diagnose and treat inter-vertebral disc disease with resultant low back pain and leg pain. With the aid of fluoroscopy and a 2mm endoscope inserted through a small incision into the spinal canal, diagnoses such as discogenic back pain, spinal stenosis, radiculopathy and post-laminectomy syndrome can many times be successfully treated. Dr. Watson can find inflammation or vascularization of the discs and nearby tissues thereby diagnosing the cause of the pain. He then uses a number of instruments to shrink the damaged discs, reduce the inflammation/neovascularization on or near the discs and thereby reduce the pain. He can also cut through some of the scar tissue in patients who previously had back surgery. This can result in less low back and leg pain, numbness and weakness. The procedure is usually completed in 40-60 minutes of operating time. Most patients experience post-operative relief immediately to several days later. Many patients can return to work and resume normal activities within days to a couple of weeks. Innovative Pain Solutions’ approach to minimally invasive spine surgery was pioneered by Dr. Lawrence B. Rothstein and is performed in only a few other medical facilities in the world. |
